Place a Hold

Placing a hold online is quick and easy, and can save you a trip to the library.

  • Go to our Catalog and use the search field to find the book or item.
  • Once you find the item, click on the “Place Hold” button on the right.
  • Enter your Library Card Number, and PIN to log in. Before you click Submit Request, select which library you want to pick the item up at.
    • Your Library Card Number: the 14 digit number underneath the barcode on the back of your library card. Type it in without spaces.
    • Your PIN: a 4 digit number given when you received your library card. Forgot your PIN? Contact us and we can change it for you.
  • If someone else has a hold on the item, go ahead and place the hold to be put in the queue.
  • The Library will email, text, or call you when the item is ready to be picked up and checked out.

Things to Know

  • Items are kept waiting for you on the Holds Shelf for one week after the item comes in.
    • If you are unable to pick up the hold, please contact us during those 7 days so we can put it back in circulation.
  • Make sure that your Contact Information is correct, so that you get the notification that the item is ready for pick up.
  • You may have up to 15 items on hold at one time.
  • If you change your mind and don’t need the hold any longer, you can call us and we can remove the hold.

What does the Hold Status mean?

  • Pending: your hold was placed and we’re getting it ready.
  • Active: someone else has your item and you’re in line to get it. You’ll see a number that indicates where you are in the queue.
  • Shipped: it’s coming from another branch and it’s on its way.
  • Held: it’s ready to pick up!

Return Items

You can return your items either inside one of our branches during open hours, or using our outside dropboxes 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Anderson and Burney both have walk-up dropboxes outside the building. Redding has drive-up dropboxes on the south side of the building.

Renew Items

Items will automatically renew two (2) times, unless there is a Hold or it is a Hot Off the Press item.

When your item auto-renews, you will get a notification three (3) days before the due date, letting you know the due date has been extended from the original date. If there is a hold or the item is not eligible for renewal, you will get a reminder notification that your items are due.
