Check out a mobile hotspot and get free wireless internet for 7 days! It offers 4G internet service through T-Mobile to up to 15 devices at a time.

Adults with a valid Shasta Public Libraries card in good standing can check out a hotspot for up to 1 week. Hotspots are available at the Redding Library (4 hotspots).

Hotspot Information

  • Hotspots provide fast and reliable 4G internet service.
  • One hotspot can connect up to 15 devices (phones, laptops, tablets, printers, cameras, etc.) at the same time.
  • Hotspots may not be used outside of the United States.

Hotspot Check-Out

  • Hotspots may be checked out for 7 days.
  • One hotspot per patron/household at a time.
  • Hotspots are checked out with the hotspot, a charger, and a carry case.

Returning the Hotspot

  • Do not place hotspots in the book return. Please hand the case with all of the pieces to staff at the Redding Library Customer Service desk.
  • Late fees for hotspots are $5/day.
  • Hotspot service is turned off the first day it is overdue and will not access the internet until the hotspot is returned.
  • A $75 replacement fee will be charged for a lost or damaged hotspot. Case replacement is $16.

Mobile Hotspot Instructions

Connecting Your Device:

  1. Press & hold OFF/ON button for 3 seconds until the word WELCOME appears. The device will take a few moments to turn on completely.
  2. Press the power button to access the menu and take note of the hotspot network name and password.
  3. Make sure WiFi is enabled on the device you want to connect to (laptop, cell phone, tablet, etc.).
  4. Go to your device’s WiFi settings and locate the hotspot network.
  5. Enter the hotspot’s password.
  6. Once connected, your device is now using the internet made available by the hotspot connection. Up to 15 devices may connect at the same time using steps 3-5.
  7. To turn off the hotspot, press and hold the OFF/ON button for a few seconds. You should see the word GOODBYE appear.
  8. To charge the hotspot, plug the charger into an outlet and plug the smaller end into the hotspot.
