Check Out Items

Checking out an item is quick and easy.

With your library card at one of our branches, use either one of our Self Help Stations or go to the Customer Service desk and they with check out your items for you.

Self Help Stations

See how to use the Self Help Stations
  1. Touch the screen to start the process.
  2. If you like, choose a language.
  3. Scan your library card.
  4. Your account info is displayed, tap next.
  5. Place up to 5 of your items on the reader pad.
    - Items often can be read in a stack.
    - If the items are media or thick books, less is better.
  6. Tap on the number representing the number of items on the reader pad.
  7. If the reader is having problems reading the items you may be prompted to:
    - Move the items about.
    - Find the Library's barcode of each item on the reader and scan it.
    - If the item can't be checked out it will tell you.
  8. Tap Continue and repeat the last 3 steps until all your items are checked out.
  9. Tap Finish, your receipt will be printed out.

Renew Items

Items can be renewed two (2) times, unless ...

  • there is a HOLD or it is a Hot Off the Press item, then it cannot be renewed.

To Renew Online:

Renewing items online can be done anywhere with internet access.

  • In the links on at the top of the page click the tab for "My Account."
    Enter your Library Card Number and PIN.
    • Library Card Number - the 14 digit number underneath the barcode on the back of your library card - show me. Type the number with no spaces. 
    • PIN - a 4 digit number given to you when you received your library card.
      If you have forgotten your PIN, please contact the Shasta Public Libraries and we can change it for you.
  • Click the link for "Items Out"
  • Click on the box next to the items you wish to renew.
    Click "Renew Selected Items" at the bottom of the page.
    You will get a message with the number of items renewed, as well as notes on any problems.

To Renew by Phone:

  • Call us at 530-245-7250.
  • You will need your Library Card Number.
